A Week of Recap & One Grumpy Sunday

T. has a book that I read over and over to him when he was about three. "I Was So Mad" by Mercer Mayer. That seems like I good way to summerize today, although I am not sure that it applies to me or to T. He is bored (See previous definition of "Sunday Syndrome") and therefore is tormenting A. So much for a nap for A.

The week has been too beautiful for description. Of course I feel complelled to at least to try. It has been a week of blue skies filled with fluffy white clouds, a week of lilacs bursting into bloom and week of warm and starry nights. All in a week to make you glad to be here. At least of you don't read the newspapers and cry for the families who have lost beloved ones in the war against terror. Iraq has been particularly bloody this week as a small pocket of resistance inflicted causualties on the US Army with the hope that it would weaken the resolve of this country to carry on. They could be so easily put down if we weren't concerned with "collateral damage", but thankfully we are.

For the weekly recap on the homefront, there is little new and perhaps that says life is just moving on in it same steady pace. But it is the thousand details in the same-ness that keep things intresting.

T. played some more baseball. The Tuesday night game was officially scored 10-6(Orioles), with 5 innings complete. It was called in the sixth because of the little league time rule. In the bottom of the sixth the score was 10-8 with two men on base and two outs. So had we moved things along a little bit more and gotten to finish the game the outcome might have been different. T. pitched the last inning, and while he hasn't had too much expirence as a pitcher he did pretty good. He did have one strike-out and no runs scored while he was pitching. So I guess he has a 0.00 ERA so far. The Thursday night game was rained out due to a quick storm that blew up and blew over in 20 minutes but left the fields drenched.

Friday's game was against the Giant's and unfortunately another loss. The final score was 8-2. Again the problem was offense. None of the boys were hitting. T., who is a good batter, is not making good contact with the ball. At least he isn't hitting like he should or could. Friday night, the catcher could't be there so T. took the opportunity to try his hand a catching. He really liked doing it and did a good job for a first timer. But he still has a lot to learn, baseball is a very complex sport. Another note on Friday, Halley came over and spent time with T. after school, that had a good time. It is nice that although the don't get to see each other often and go to different schools they can pick up and play as if no time has passed. Halley and family came to the Friday night game for the first few innings, but it was cold and they weren't dressed to stay outside.

Saturday we played the make up game against the Dodger's that was rained out Thursday evening. Is was a beautiful sunny day to being playing baseball, made all the nice by a victory. 7-6.

Well, enough. I have work to do, I have a crashed hard drive to recover and repair before Monday morning!

Baseball Game Recap
As promised at the end of yesterday's excursion into blog-land, a full account of the most important baseball game played yesterday. Well, the Sox v. Yanks game may have been slightly more important but I don't really want to think about it since the Yankees are down 2-0 in this first series, including the game from yesterday. Of course it is almost written law that the games the Sox win early in the season are far less critical than the ones that the Yankees win in the fall. One word: 2003 ALCS (ok, it isn't really a word but you follow the general idea).

So it was opening day for the Bridgewater Little League and thus T. had his first game of this season. The weather, after being dreary and rainy for a full week previous, treated us to a perfectly spectacular day. T. bats third in the order and is one of the teams big bats. He didn't have a outstanding day, but walked three times and a hit (not a technical hit as the ball should have been fielded by the third baseman who just watched it go between his legs). He stole 2nd each time on base, as it was quickly discovered that the catcher couldn't make the throw to 2nd. Defensively over the couse of the day he did get the oportunity to play 2nd, 3rd, and SS. The game wasn't terribly exciting, which is not to say it wasn't fun, as reflected in the final score 18-5. The game was called in the 5th (minor league-little league only play 6 innings), due to the slaughter rule and running out of time. Opening day games are strictly limited to two hours. So overall a good day - it is good when your team wins.

Which brings us to today - Sunday. The problem with Sunday's is that after church and lunch there is a fair amount of downtime. No baseball, no work, no school, just plenty of time for the Sunday scenario to repeat ad nausium. It usually goes like this. T., of school age, is bored. Really bored. Finally he finds something to do, settles down to enjoy it. A., who is three, possibly realizing that Mom is having a moment of peace finds brother and begins to pester him. T. gets mad, yells at sister, A. cries, peace is shattered and T. realizes he is bored. Time to start the cycle over again.

It is also kind of disconcerting that T. has discoved on the computer, in a long lost and forgotten folder "Wolf-3D". A remnant from my college days. Oh my.

Peace is shattered, time to go.

In the Beginning...
After spending a fair amount of time waxing philosophical (I have no idea how to spell that) on the merits of blogging versus pen and ink journaling my browser crashed leaving me with a definate plus in the column of the old fashioned method. Grrr.

So now all of my enlightening thoughts are lost. Much to the detriment of mankind!

However, it does make for a much shorter post, I assure you. Well that and the fact that Anna (age 3) is no longer content to play and let me think deep thoughts or even type. So upon my return a grand description of todays major event. Opening Day for the Bridgewater Little League, of which Todd (age 9), is an enthusiastic participant.

In the Beginning...

And so it begins an electronic journal, a place to ramble and muse to my hearts content. Today it is private, perhaps with some courage I will decided to write my everyday thoughts for the benefit of greater mankind. My Mom was an avid and consistant journal-er. And having lost her to cancer at the young age of seven finding a dusty cardboard box on the attic full of details of her daily life was a treasure. So I thought to do the same, for lurking in the back-most part of my concious is the thought that my children might need written word to get to know me as well.
My mother's journals are beautifully handwritten in faux-leather bound book. I made an attempt at that method, writing faithfully for a while at my rolltop desk with a cozy cup of hot tea (Earl Gray, hot) or a frosty glass of sweetend iced tea - I am a southern girl after all. But for me, an engineerand computer consultant the click of the keys on my computer is a comforting sound and my place in front of my computer more likely to encourage the continued pursuit. And somehow, the idea of my thoughts reduced to bits and bytes travelling the internet to some unknow server appeals to the "hi-tech" side of my soul. It is less romantic, perhaps than paper and ink, but somehow sexier.

So today was opening day of baseball for the Bridgewater Minor League Rockies. And since Anna is hanging from my back, I am finding my ability to think, much less type, considerably reduced. I will wait for the next opportunity to tell about the days events and triumphs.
